Five-panel cap, moulded MAD patch and cobra buckle

A flat-fronted five-panel camp cap in black cotton twill, unstructured, with a short pre-curved bill topstitched in six rows. Centred on the front panel is a moulded rubber patch: a black square with a raised inner border carrying MAD in white block capitals, two angled brows set above the letters and a downturned arc below them, so the word doubles as a scowling face. A small black woven tab on the back right panel carries an interlocking monogram worked in white. The back closes on black webbing through a cobra-style quick-release buckle, black metal with two brass-toned release levers.

There is no sewn-in maker's or care label. What the piece carries is the front patch, MAD, and the woven back tab with its monogram. Listed as one size.

Condition: no flaws found. The twill is an even black with no fading at the crown or along the bill edge, the rubber patch is fully bonded with no lifting at its corners, the buckle is unscratched with both levers intact, and the webbing is unfrayed.
