A carpenter jean in a dark, almost untouched indigo. A hammer loop on one leg and a folding-rule pocket on the other, plain patch pockets at the back, cream contrast topstitching throughout and orange bar tacks at every stress point. A brass shank button at the waist over a Scovill zip.
The button reads SEARS between two laurel sprays, and the fabric is a heavy 100% cotton denim. There is no interior label left, so the dating comes off the hardware: Sears used HERCULES on its 1930s-50s workwear and ROEBUCKS on its 1950s-70s denim, and a button reading plain SEARS follows the shortening of the store name in the early 1970s. A Scovill zip is consistent with US production of that period. No selvedge on the outseam and no union label, both checked. The waist comes to 32 inches around.
Condition: the best-preserved piece in this intake. The indigo is dark and even with no whiskering at the hip, no wear at the seat or knees and an unbroken hem - it reads as barely worn.
